Temple Preparation Lesson 1a: Introduction: The Doctrine and Christ and the Plan of Salvation Sharing and opening prayer.   I am so glad that we can discuss what a privilege it is to go to the temple, to make covenants with our Heavenly Father, and to receive additional blessings and gifts of power from Him. This will not only bless our lives, but in turn bless the lives of so many others. You have arrived at this point because of your love for your Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. You’ve made many righteous choices and given up many past habits to establish a relationship with God and communication with Him through the Holy Ghost. How has that blessed your life? The Doctrine of Christ You have been living the Gospel or the Doctrine of Christ. What is the Doctrine of Christ? Joseph Smith wrote it very simply in The Articles of Faith, number 4 : 4  We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Fai...

Lesson 6: Preparing to Enter the Holy Temple Lesson 6: Preparing to Enter the Holy Temple “And inasmuch as my people build a house unto me in the name of the Lord, and do not suffer any unclean thing to come into it, that it be not defiled, my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God. But if it be defiled I will not come into it, and my glory shall not be there; for I will not come into unholy temples” (D&C 97:15-17). 1.       How have you prepared yourself to enter the temple? How can you continue to prepare? Why is important that we are prepared and meet the standard of worthiness? Have you seen a shift in your attitudes and behavior as you are preparing to go to the temple?   “Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a ...

Lesson 5: Learning from the Lord through Symbols Symbols around the world: https://visme.co/blog/symbols-and-meanings/   Temple Clothing: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/media/video/2018-12-1400-what-are-temple-garments?lang=eng   https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/media/video/2020-01-0100-sacred-temple-clothing?lang=eng What are some symbols that you see in your everyday life? Stop signs and lights How can symbols help you remember important things? The Lord most often taught in parables. He used a verbal way to represent symbolically things that otherwise might be difficult to understand. He related stories with chickens, birds, flowers, foxes, trees, burglars, highwaymen, sunsets, rich and poor. In a very real sense, these stories could speak to the hearers according to their locality, professions, and understanding. But there are things that can be masked in symbolism that people don’t pick up on, until they learn more and are humble enough ...

Lesson 4: Receiving Temple Ordinances and Covenants https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/endowed-from-on-high/lesson-4?lang=eng  (Refer to Lesson 4 for outline in presented full lesson and add those quotes and scriptures in class discussion)   “And without the ordinances thereof, and the authority of the priesthood, the power of godliness is not manifest unto men in the flesh” ( D&C 84:21 ). In the temple we receive the ordinances that will enable us to return to the presence of God. We also make covenants to live the laws of the gospel.  What is an ordinance?  It is a sacred ceremony that has a spiritual meaning and effect. When we speak of the saving ordinances of the gospel, what does that mean to you? Query:  Those are the points and questions I have for the class. Now, I would like you to answer how ordinances in the Gospel of Jesus Christ serve as sacred ceremonies with spiritual meaning; and, also the effects associated with t...

Lesson 3:  Temple Work Brings Blessing into our Lives Now and Forever  https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/endowed-from-on-high/lesson-3?lang=eng What temples do we know about in ancient times? Moses’ tabernacle:  Exodus 40:1–2, 34–38 Solomon’s temple:  2 Chronicles 3:1–2 ;  2 Chronicles 5:1 Herod’s temple:  Matthew 21:12–15 Nephite temples:  2 Nephi 5:16 ;  Mosiah 1:18 ;  3 Nephi 11:1 Elder Bruce R. McConkie said: “The inspired erection and proper use of temples is one of the great evidences of the divinity of the Lord’s work. … Where there are temples, with the spirit of revelation resting upon those who administer therein, there the Lord’s people will be found; where these are not, the Church and kingdom and the truth of heaven are not” ( Mormon Doctrine,  2nd ed. [1966], 781). Through making and keeping temple covenants, we will receive many blessi...

Lesson 2: Worthy to Enter the Temple

Lesson 2: Worthy to Enter the Temple https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/endowed-from-on-high/lesson-2?lang=eng Today we are going to discuss some things all church members are continually working on in order to feel worthy to enter the temple: Moral cleanliness; Tithing; Word of Wisdom; and the Sabbath Day. The real reason that we are having these discussions is to help you understand and feel prepared to enter the temple. The reason that it’s important to learn commit yourself to living those four commandments that are listed, is that when you are in the temple, you will make further covenants with the Lord to keep certain laws: for instance, the law of Chastity corresponds to moral cleanliness; the Law of Sacrifice corresponds to paying tithing, and so does the Word of Wisdom. The Law of Consecration really corresponds to keeping the Sabbath day holy as well. So you’ll feel way more comfortable, or worthy, to be in the temple making those covenants if you...
